My clematis leaves are turning brown and dying - anyone know what's wrong ?? Thankyou?

when it comes to clematis they strive on lots of fertalizer,preferably manure.try to stay organic.have you used any miracle grow lately?to much fertalizer can do more harm than good.it can litteraly burn the plant.also clematis likes it roots to be shaded.good luck

Reply:Have you watered it? if no then water it



Is it in the correct enviroment?if no then move it to a more sunny section



Did it bloom earlier this year? if it did then it will start die earlier



have you just planted it? some plants stress when planted, if you keep it for a year and see if it comes back next year

Reply:clematis has already gone through its growth and reproductive cycle...the leaves willn die and parts of the stem but it will come back next year...any growth you get at this late date will be secondary and is not important...it will be anew in the spring...

Reply:Maybe there is a water problem-the soil is to dry or maybe there is a fertilization problem-too much nitrogen (N) added.
Reply:There is a disease called clematis wilt, which looks as though the plants require water. If you think your plant has this, cut it right back and burn the affected parts. You might need to do this for a couple of years.
Reply:Sounds like the heat got to them.They like a moist soil around their roots.If the plant isn't big enough to shade itself, try using mulch to keep the moisture level up.

Reply:Is the ground moist? If not, or if the "feet" of the plant is in a sunny location, it may need water. Keep the bottom of the plant in the shade if possible. Clematis like cool "feet."

Reply:There was something about that on the news this morning, a couple of dry winters and then all this sunshine we have been having is killing off everything, even the trees!
